A Family within Community: A Resident and Her Granddaughter Thrive at The Oaks at Denville

From family ties to professional passion, how one resident’s story inspired a meaningful career—and a beautiful, generational bond that keeps growing.
For Jenna Curran, joining the team at The Oaks at Denville wasn’t just a career move—it was a homecoming. Accepting the role as marketing coordinator at this Springpoint Life Plan Community simply felt natural, especially after several years of visiting Lynn Krueger, a beloved and actively involved resident—who also happens to be her grandmother.
“I was already spending most of my time here,” Jenna explains. “I always loved the atmosphere. It just felt like the right place to be—and it’s only two minutes from my house!”
Her grandmother moved to The Oaks after a particularly difficult time in life. In 2010, she lost her husband, best friend, and only sibling in the same year. For Lynn, it was time for a change. She moved from Virginia to live closer to family in New Jersey and eventually found The Oaks after volunteering at the Book Barn, a nonprofit located just across the street.
It wasn’t long before The Oaks truly felt like home—for both Lynn and Jenna.
After graduating from Fordham University in 2023 with a BA in Political Science and Government, Jenna spent time traveling and reconnecting with family (she also has a brother and twin sister). One of her most treasured memories was a road trip to Newport—planned entirely by Lynn.
But when she began a career in landlord-tenant law, something didn’t feel right. “I was evicting people every day,” Jenna recalls. “Even when you’re doing your job well, it’s heavy. It’s a tough line of work. Helping people find a happy, permanent place to live—that’s a positive spin. This is so much better for my soul.”
That shift in mindset—and the happiness she saw her grandmother experiencing at The Oaks—inspired her to make a change. Jenna’s now part of a team that helps welcome new residents, and where she’s able to share her family’s own “move-in” success.
“My main role involves helping people transition into life here—and I’ve been through that transition as a family member. I know how emotional and overwhelming it can be. Being able to say, ‘This is what my grandmother did, and it worked out so well,’ really comforts people.”
Their deep-rooted connection shines through even in the smallest moments. “We’ll grab lunch together or catch up during a break,” Jenna says. “It’s rare and special—to work somewhere where your best friend lives.”
Lynn agrees—“I do feel lucky, it’s like everyone here gets a little bit of her, too. She brings so much energy and fun. It’s not every day you get to see your granddaughter thrive in the same community where you live. I’m very proud of her.”
As for Lynn, most of the team now affectionately refers to her as “Granny.” She’s a constant presence and friendly face throughout the community, whether she’s calling Bingo or joining trivia night. And with over 30 moves in her lifetime, Granny says this one finally feels like forever.
“This is my 34th move. And yes—it’s my favorite! I feel like I’m finally home, and I feel like I know where I’ll be in the future. It’s a comfort to know I have a place if anything happens. And the people here are wonderful.”
Meanwhile, Jenna hopes to explore new and creative ways to serve The Oaks. “I’m naturally outgoing and a go-getter—I’m thankful this role lets me connect with people and build relationships. I want to contribute wherever the team needs me. I love this community; it’s a great place to work and I’m really happy with my choice.
The Oaks offers a place to live and thrive. And for grandmother and granddaughter, it’s also a place where work, family, and joy come together.
