On June 4, the Springpoint Foundation held a memorial dedication at Portland Pointe, a Springpoint affordable housing community in Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey, to honor the late philanthropist Caroline Huber, founder of the Stone Foundation of New Jersey.

Huber was an exceptionally civic- and community-minded individual. Before her death in February 2021, she served on various nonprofit boards and promoted environmental protection, food security, housing stability, and mental health services. She established the Stone Foundation in 1998 to support programs that promote personal, communal, and systemic growth toward a more compassionate, respectful, and inclusive world.

The Stone Foundation began funding the Springpoint Foundation in 2016 specifically to support and enhance the lives of Portland Pointe residents through Springpoint’s Community Cares program.

The program collaborates with local farmers to purchase items in bulk for onsite community farmers’ markets, thus engaging the entire community and supporting local farms. Additionally, the Stone Foundation provides Portland Pointe residents with access to cultural events in the surrounding area, including an annual trip to the Two River Theater in Red Bank, New Jersey; a professional, nonprofit, regional theater company that Mrs. Huber helped establish. The Stone Foundation also supports the Write Now Group at The Atrium at Navesink Harbor, a Springpoint Life Plan Community in Red Bank.

On Friday, June 4, the Springpoint Foundation honored the memory of Caroline Huber, founder of the Stone Foundation, with a memorial tree planting, plaque and birdbath at Portland Pointe in Atlantic Highlands, N.J. Attendees include Michael Oakes, senior vice president of the Springpoint Foundation; Sam Huber, president of Stone Foundation; Portland Pointe resident; Judy Immordino, executive director of Portland Pointe; and Springpoint President and CEO Anthony Argondizza.

“We remember Mrs. Huber and her dedication to the residents of Portland Pointe,” said Anthony A. Argondizza, President and CEO of Springpoint. “We will never forget her compassion and generosity towards Springpoint affordable housing residents and so many others in Monmouth and Ocean counties.”

The Springpoint Foundation recently received a $600,000 endowment from the Stone Foundation to continue Caroline Huber’s philanthropic works. Sam Huber, Caroline Huber’s son, said, “My mother, along with the Stone Foundation, created this endowment to ensure Portland Pointe residents will continue to reap these benefits in perpetuity. Her philanthropic work for the senior population in Monmouth and Ocean Counties over the years will live on through her legacy.”

The Stone Foundation helps build vibrant communities and a just society by supporting organizations working cooperatively to provide for a thriving and diverse natural environment and to increase access to social services, the arts, and education.
