News: Springpoint Donates Beds and Medical Equipment

Kenya Donations

Volunteers from Springpoint Senior Living met at Monroe Village in Monroe Township, NJ, on Friday, August 17, to help load a shipment of hospital beds and other durable pieces of medical equipment bound for Itando Mission of Hope and Health Care Centre in Kenya, a country in East Africa. The recent opening of Village Point Rehabilitation & Healthcare, Springpoint’s newly constructed 87,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art healthcare center on the Monroe Village campus, meant that items at the campus’s former healthcare facility were available for donation.

David Woodward, Springpoint’s Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, thanked his colleagues from The Atrium at Navesink Harbor—Director of Health Services LuAnn DellaPietro and Executive Director Michael Gentile—for identifying a charitable organization in need of beds and medical equipment. Opened in 2011, Itando Mission of Hope and Health Care Centre is a non-profit health facility based in Kenya’s Vihiga County that offers primary health care. A collaborative welfare project, Itando is owned by Mudavadi Memorial Foundation of Kenya and Sananda Foundation of Spain; the organization will handle the shipment of goods to Kenya.

“We are thrilled to know that our donated equipment will be put to such great use,” says Mr. Woodward. “It will help increase Itando’s inpatient capacity for maternal and child health care and enable women to receive care in a comfortable hospital bed instead of having to deliver their babies on a metal stretcher and receive pre- and post-natal care on the floor. This will improve their comfort, care, quality of life and recovery.”
