Springpoint is advancing its innovative approach to care with the Tovertafel, a game-based therapeutic system created for individuals living with dementia. And thanks to the Tovertafel, residents at two of our Life Plan Communities are experiencing more meaningful engagement and interactive moments than ever before. This cutting-edge technology stimulates cognitive activity, encourages movement, and fosters meaningful social interaction through a variety of captivating, interactive games—bringing joy and purpose to residents and team members alike at Meadow Lakes and Winchester Gardens.

The arrival of the Tovertafel at Winchester Gardens was made possible through the generosity of resident donor Dr. Paul Margulies, a retired endocrinologist who joined the community in 2023 with his wife following her Alzheimer’s diagnosis. After experiencing the challenges of caregiving, Dr. Margulies found Winchester’s personalized memory care and independent living offerings to be a welcome solution. Upon attending a live demonstration of the Tovertafel (which means “magic table” in Dutch), he immediately recognized its therapeutic potential and facilitated a donation to bring the system to Winchester.

The Tovertafel is more than just a game table — it is a multifaceted wellness tool. Its experiences include calming visuals like floating leaves or fish to support relaxation, as well as energetic games like bubble popping or virtual soccer that inspire movement and participation. Some activities are designed to encourage reminiscence and storytelling, while others promote routine-building and a sense of purpose. Its versatility makes it a valuable resource for enhancing quality of life and supporting wellness goals.

Teams across both communities have since observed noticeable benefits among participants, including improved mood, decreased agitation, and increased engagement. Residents frequently express enthusiasm for the Tover sessions, and family members are often drawn into the experience when visiting, further reinforcing social connection.

“The staff and I have noticed a reduction in depressive and disruptive behaviors. Residents look forward to the exciting games that the system has to offer and they seem to be more engaged during Tover game sessions,” said Raiyana Wright, the Activities Assistant at Winchester Gardens.

Introducing such innovative technology to our communities, made possible through the support of the Springpoint Foundation, reflects Springpoint’s mission to enrich lives through compassion, connection, and engaging, person-centered experiences. By integrating these interactive tools into everyday moments, team members at Meadow Lakes and Winchester Gardens are redefining what it means to support well-being and cognitive health in a dynamic, thoughtful way.
